Monique Lhuillier, one of the biggest names in bridal fashion in the US, is the latest addition to Wilton's designers in 2011.
With Monique Lhuillier there is a subtle mix of cultures; born and raised in Philippines, she spent her school years in Switzerland. From her father she inherited her French and Vietnamese roots, whilst from her mother, she took the passion for creating clothes.
At an early age Monique was hungry for fashion, so she joined the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles where she already specialized in special occasions dresses. It was 1996 however that was the turning point in her career. Disappointed by the bridal fashion while looking for her own wedding dress, Monique Lhuillier designed her own, and launched with her husband her own bridal label. Ever since, her designs can be seen regularly on the red carpet, and on celebrity brides, like Reese Witherspoon, Alicia Silverstone, Ashlee Simpson, and Pink.
With a little Californian charm Monique Lhuillier creates whimsical, ethereal, couture wedding gowns for modern, young women, who want to combine glamour and sophistication on their big day. First to introduce two piece dresses with elaborately draped skirts and ornate lacy bustiers, Monique is best known for her ability to reproduce the 'red carpet' effect in all her bridal designs. As Monique Lhuillier's publicist rightly said “Monique strives to create a perfect moment and gives the bride her ultimate day”.
